Ford is looking to take on the Hyundai Creta and the Volkswagen T-Cross with an all new SUV. Named the Puma, the SUV will measure under 4.5 metre length and will be positioned above the Ford EcoSport. The Puma SUV is based on the latest generation Fiesta platform and will be developed at the company's plant in Romania. Ford is planning to reveal the Puma during the first week of April in Amsterdam. The Puma is aimed to fill the gap between the Ford EcoSport and the Kuga SUV. The new Ford Puma is expected to be offered with 2 engine options – a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The new model is most likely to share platform, engine and gearboxes with the new-gen Fiesta hatchback.
From the pictures that have surfaced online it looks that the Puma will be a completely different looker when compared to the EcoSport. The Puma seems to have borrowed more of its looks from the bigger Kuga SUV with sharp creases and a strong front and angular headlamps that will even remind you of it's chief competition, the Hyundai Creta. The front grille is signature Ford and so is the inverted C-shaped fog lamp housing. A prominent line streaks over from the front to the rear wheel arches adding much character and muscle to the vehicle and it gets a beautifully narrow body cladding that hugs a handsome pair of black alloys that emphasizes more of the Puma's sporty rather than off-road nature.
The back is uptight and carries forward the sporty appeal of the car with a roof spoiler and shark fin antenna. the wrap around tail lights are enveloped by strong arches. The rear end also receives skid plate and chrome exhaust. Ford is killing it in the car space lately with successful launches back to back and Ford is banking that the Puma will carry it further.
